Plan a day to celebrate the end of summer & create a few final memories before the school year takes over.

Dear Sister,

I don’t know about you, but it feels like summer gets shorter every year. Depending on where you live school may be in a few short weeks, or you may have another month. Before your life is filled with classes, homework, and club meetings, I encourage you to plan a day with your best friends to celebrate the end of summer.

Not only will you celebrate the end of summer, but you’ll build valuable memories. If you think about it, memories are a huge part of what makes us feel closer to certain friends over others. So take the time to plan something special.

Here are a few ideas for your end of the summer celebration!

Plan the perfect End of Summer Celebration with your besties! Summer is short, but memories last a lifetime.

CALLING ALL BESTIES

Don’t forget to pick a day where all your ladies can get together. Take into consideration work schedules, family vacations, and other commitments. Your friends will feel special that you chose a day they could come.

COFFEE

Start your day meeting your friends for coffee and maybe a pastry or two at your favorite local spot. There’s a coffee shop near my house with dangerously delicious cinnamon rolls. Sometimes as a single gal I wish I had someone to split food with so I could try more than one thing. Plan on everyone buying a different pastry and cutting them up into bite sized pieces. It’s tapas style for breakfast. Yum!

Don’t rush. Take time to catch up and dream together. Ask your friends what they think they will remember most about this summer. And what they are looking forward to in the coming school year.

PHOTO SHOOT

Do you live near the beach? Or maybe your town has a retro looking downtown? Find someplace visually interesting and have a mini photo shoot. New profile pictures all around and photos together. Yes please!

PICNIC

Whip out a packed lunch and find somewhere shaded to eat. Chicken salad sandwiches on croissants are favorites. Don’t forget watermelon sliced into easy to eat pieces and some sparkling water.

MANICURES

How fun would matching manicures be for the first day of school? You can book an appointment at a nail salon. Or save money and take turns doing each other’s nails.

SLEEPOVER

When was the last time you had a sleepover? Or do you call them slumber parties? I certainly had more of those when I was little than when I was in high school. You’re never too old to have one with your besties.

Plan on pizza, popcorn, movie marathons, beauty masks, and lots of laughter. At some point in the evening bake fresh homemade cookies. You can make the dough ahead of time, but wait to bake them so you can enjoy them warm and gooey from the oven.

Feel free to add your own flair to the day. Maybe you like video games over movies. Or hate manicures and would rather shop for matching sunglasses than get matching manicures. Take some time recharge before you buckle down for learning.

In the month of August, I’ll be posting a series sharing how you can thrive in school (high school or college) this year! I’ll be tackling topics like how to use your planner so that it actually helps you, how to take notes to improve your study habits, reading for learning and pleasure, and trying new things. I can’t wait to share my thoughts!

If there’s anything you’d like me to directly address that you think would fit in this series or one of the topics, please write it in the comments.

Happy Summer,

Mallary
