How I’m doing, how I find the time, and what to expect.
Dear Sister,
National Novel Writing Month is in full swing. I am so excited and full of writer joy this month. I know it just started, but I’ve done more writing in the last five days than I have in a year.
So, how am I doing?
To be on track towards my 50,000 word goal, I need to write an average of 1,667 words per day. At the end of day five I should have written 8, 335 words. Wow! And so what is my total now? 12, 110!
I am so proud of myself and thrilled to be writing like this again. The story is flowing and the ideas are showing up.
How do I find the time?
I’m squeezing the time out of my busy schedule. On Day one I met a co-worker at a coffee shop and just wrote. On Saturday, I wrote 4, 619 words. Yahoo! That’s a lot of words.
And I haven’t lost momentum. Although, after Saturday’s success it can feel like I’m waning. But of course I’m not. I haven’t had a single day where I’m not hitting or exceeding my goal.
It’s not easy. I’ve had to say no to television, stay up later than usual, and forego going out. You make time for what’s important to you.
What’s my outlook for the rest of November?
I think this front-loading the word count will help me when we get to the end of the month, and I’ll be cooking for Thanksgiving. But if I manage to get all of my writing in that week as well, so much better. I am going to keep going until I have my book’s rough draft complete.
But right now, I’m tired. Too bad blog posts don’t count for my NaNoWriMo word count!
Your sister,
Mallary
