Every creative should find their forever puppy to fill their life with companionship, inspiration, motivation, and focus.

Dear Sister,

Nine years ago today, I drove for two hours and met an old friend in a Target parking lot. A check was handed over, and Pepper was placed into my arms. I knew I was smitten with the little one-and-a-half-pound dog, but I had no idea what a big part of my life she would become.

It seems impossible that nine years have passed — nine wonderful years with my constant companion. So you may be asking yourself, how did you spend your anniversary?

Well, Pepper had dental surgery two weeks ago, and today was her follow-up appointment to see how she is healing. (So visualize me transporting a trembling four-pound forever puppy to the vet’s office.) She got the green light to eat solid foods again. She loves her soft food, but even that can get old. She was eager to get crunching with the few teeth she has left.

Pepper is getting older, and I’m super thankful I have a few more years with her. All this reminiscing about our first meeting combined with her recent surgery I’ve thought a lot about all the joy she brings, and I’ve realized that every creative should find themselves their perfect forever puppy!

Companionship

Long hours filled with your creative pursuits are mostly solitary. If you ask your friends to hang around while you create, they’ll probably talk to you and want you to respond. Quite distracting. So eventually, you’ll find yourself a little lonely while you pursue your creative dreams.

Enter forever puppy. They don’t talk and try to convince you to go out when you should be creating. They are quite content to snuggle up in your lap while you write, crochet, sketch, or what have you. Best buddy ever.

Inspiration

Looking for some real-life love inspo for your art? But perhaps like me, you don’t have a human love interest. Enter forever puppy. Need to describe how love fills you up and transforms you? Look no further than your fur baby.

Motivation

The muse isn’t speaking to you? Let your forever puppy be your motivation. Perfect your craft so you earn oodles of money and buy your forever puppy all the fancy treats they deserve.

Or just let the idea of snuggling up serve as motivation to get working.

Focus

Every creative should find their forever puppy.

Sometimes artsy types think if they aren’t feeling it they can’t work. But that’s silly. We need inspiration for ideas. We need consistency to show up and get it done.

So let your forever puppy snuggle up and trap you. The longer they snuggle, the longer you are forced to work. Before you know it your masterpiece will be complete.

In Conclusion

So it’s pretty obvious that forever puppies are the essential ingredient to a long and successful life as a creative. So rescue, adopt, find your perfect little companion.

Your Sister,

Mallary
