Dear Sister,

Sometimes life can feel dull. The monotony of waking up before the sun, dragging myself to work, checking off tasks, driving in traffic, cooking food, cleaning, watching tv, sleeping, and then waking up to repeat the same pattern. But something wonderful happens when I’m creative. The world is filled with color and texture. That may sound corny, but it’s true. When I  draft a story, cook a new recipe, paint a wall a pretty color, or crochet a granny square, suddenly life feels refreshed.

As a kid, I had a vivd imagination. I created elaborate stories for my dolls and played out adventures in our tree house. I also loved arts and crafts. I still love creating beautiful things and weaving elaborate stories.

The stresses of being an adult can certainly get in the way of that. But I’m here to encourage you to not let it. Being creative adds depth to our life. It pulls us out of the mundane and expected and elevates us. Use your gifts and talents.

The blanket I knitted this past year for my sister for Christmas!

I’ve thought about this a lot.

Being creative is so beautiful and necessary. We were created in the image of a creative God. Use those talents and don’t let them be wasted because Netflix beckons. Live your life.

I mentioned in last week’s post that I would share my yearly goals for the blog in this post. So here it is.

1. I am going to focus on how to live creatively in everyday life.

My focus is on creativity and how to insert it into your life in little ways. This is for those who consider themselves creative, and those who don’t. I’ll still write about more serious topics from time-to-time, but the over arching focus will be on living creatively.

2. Share more.

Okay, so I still plan to blog once a week, right here. But I also plan to share more of my creative journey over on Instagram. It’s like a mini-blog, and gives me more access to in the moment sharing. Please feel free to reach out over there and let me know what you want to see more of. I’m also planning to send out a newsletter more frequently. I won’t be blowing up your inbox, but it’s a great way to connect. And if you sign-up you’ll be the first to be in the know when I have big news.

Happy creating,

Mallary
